Who am I?

How did we start with eLogHomes?

I am an older veteran retiring from federal service with the DoD after decades in and out of uniform. My wife is a school teacher. While we're not construction experts, I believe you'll find that you don't need to be an expert to identify major construction defects in log home building. With insights from eLogHomes reviews, you'll see how even novices can recognize these issues!

How did we start with eLogHomes?

In 2023, my wife and I embarked on a journey to build our dream log cabin with eLogHomes, known for their customizable log home building kits. However, our experience has been a rollercoaster of emotions, especially given the construction defects we encountered. In the end, if asked, I would NOT do business with eLogHomes again. It's important to note that they are currently suing us, which certainly impacts my opinion.

If you're considering doing business with eLogHomes, particularly the one in Battleboro, NC, I want to make you aware of the construction defects we experienced, so you can spot these issues early. Keep an eye on them like a hawk! I had a major surgery that limited my ability to monitor the log home building process as closely as I wanted to. Be sure to check eLogHomes reviews to get a fuller picture.

Some Disastrous Results (much more to come)

The Walls aren't Plumb

Floor Joists Screwed Up

Person using a level tool on a wooden exterior wall near a porch roof.

I know this is hard to believe... all they had to do was follow the blueprints for log home building and stack the logs on top of each other. It's like they refused to use a level, which has led to several construction defects. And now, they are fighting this, claiming they did quality work! What company doesn't check for plumb?

Floor Joists Screwed Up

Floor Joists Screwed Up

Orange spirit level placed on a wooden floor near a wall.

Can you believe the floor is sagging this much? In areas, it's over 1/2 inch. When I informed them about the construction defects related to the flooring, their VP claimed it was an easy fix, yet they haven't addressed anything. I had a general contractor come out, and the estimate to fix these issues was over $6k minimum. It's disappointing, especially considering that they acknowledged the issue before and now say it's not their responsibility.

The Independent Inspection

Old wooden doors boarded up with planks and locked with a padlock.

I hired an independent home inspector who identified many construction defects related to eLogHomes' work. Their response on May 28 was, 'The Home Inspector was not hire by eLogHomes.' (sic) They never did hire their own inspector despite the numerous issues found!!

Structural Beams Just Hanging

A small insect hiding between two wooden boards.

This one shocks me! Two wood logs hold up a wall full of windows. The blueprints required structural screws every 12 inches, but eLogHomes left a 1-inch gap between the beams and walls and only used screws every 3 feet or so. They claim this is quality work and they stand by this being a 'quality installation'.

Short Corner Logs

Construction details showing wood framing, corner post, and siding installation.

This situation is even crazier! The blueprints reveal corner logs that should extend to the bottom of the skirting, but eLogHomes cut them short, leaving a hole where water poured into the foundation. VP comments: That's how it's supposed to be! Are you kidding me right now... a new home is supposed to be built with holes that allow water penetration?

Wasted Money

Stack of large cardboard boxes leaning against a wall in a storage area.

eLogHomes ordered too much from Andersen Windows. We have two exterior doors, but they mistakenly ordered 6 solid oak thresholds for the 2 doors! This situation highlights potential construction defects in their log home building process. Instead of admitting to the mistake, eLogHomes seems to prefer hiring lawyers to threaten and sue.
